Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves to produce images of internal organs and blood vessels. It is used to help diagnose abnormalities in internal organs and to examine a baby in pregnant women. Ultrasound is safe, noninvasive, and does not use ionizing radiation.

Patient Preparation

GI Series, Small Bowel Series, Ultrasound of the Abdomen and Gallbladder: For any of the aforementioned studies, do not eat or drink for 12 hours prior to your examination.

Pelvic and Pregnancy: Drink four glasses of liquid (8 oz) approximately one hour before scheduled examination. Do not void after drinking the above. The bladder must be filled for this procedure.

Sonohysterography/HSG: Pregnancy, infection or pelvic pain are contraindications and should be advised us prior to examination. Examination performed usually in first week of the menstrual cycle.

Breast Ultrasound: No preparation required.
